How we find the best cell phone plan deals

Where prices come from. Every price is imported from a carrier, MVNO, retailer or affiliate network feed in U.S. dollars. We do not retype prices by hand and we do not estimate them.

How often they are checked. The importer runs daily. Each plan carries the date its price was last verified, and a plan whose source stops reporting is flagged rather than left to go stale silently.

What “verified” means. A verified plan is one whose monthly per-line price, data allowance and coverage network matched its live source on the date shown. Promotional conditions — autopay, paperless billing, porting, multi-line pricing — are shown next to the price rather than folded into it.

Coverage. State-level coverage comes from published FCC data, mapped to the network each plan runs on. Travel eSIM packs are kept entirely separate from U.S. monthly plans so a short-stay price is never presented as a monthly rate.

What we never do. We never rank by commission, never publish a price we cannot source, and never invent ratings, reviews or coverage claims. Affiliate relationships are disclosed on every page.

Questions from journalists

How many plans and carriers does PhonePlanCompare track?
57 live U.S. monthly plans from 23 carriers, across 3 coverage networks. The figures on this page are generated from the live catalogue, not written by hand.
How does PhonePlanCompare find the best cell phone plan deals?
We import plan and offer data directly from carrier, MVNO and affiliate feeds, re-check every price daily, and publish the verified per-line monthly price in U.S. dollars together with the activation fee and the network the plan runs on. A plan is only listed once its price has been verified against a live source, and each plan shows the date of that check.
Is PhonePlanCompare independent?
Yes. Rankings are by real price and plan attributes, never by commercial relationship. The site earns affiliate commission on some outbound links and discloses that on every page, but a commercial relationship never changes a plan's position or whether it is listed.
Where does the coverage information come from?
State-level coverage comes from published FCC broadband and mobile coverage data, mapped to the network each plan runs on. We do not model or estimate coverage ourselves.
